Alwaye Rural Medical Mission Hospital owe their existence to the community extension activities which had been carried out by the staff and students of the college at a time when such activities were not considered as coming under the purview and responsibility of an educational institution.It is also important to note that this extension activities were facilitated and were seen as of great significance by the missionary coworkers.
Mrs Eileen Crowley,wife of Mr.B.G.Crowley,would always be remembered for their devoted work in the foundation and development of Alwaye Rural Medical Mission.
Mr.B.G.Crowley was the lecturer of U.C.College for 13 years.Mrs Crowley was a highly quqlified nurse. During 1930's hospital services was not available for the rural poor,dalits.Rural Mission Hospital was established on the basis of her work among the poorest,lowliest and the lost in the vicinity of the Union Christian College.The staff and students of U.C.College come forward to help Mrs.Crowley.Government gave 5acre near U.C.College to start a hospital.The programmes of this institution have been directed mainly to deal with the marginalized,vulnerable and deprived sections of Indian society the dalits,the rural poor and the women.
2.BLOOD DONATION
Blood donation camp is conducted by the students every year in U.C.College.This year the camp was held on Auguest 21st by the combined effort of NSS and NCC students.The camp was held in association with Aluva Government Hospital and I.M.A blood bank.Blood test was done for 60 students and 45 students donated blood.The camp was inaugurated by the Principal Dr.Varghese John.N.S.S Programme officer Dr.M.Bindhu,V.Jibin Jose Mathew,Rev.Fr.Johney George were the chief coordinaters of the camp.Posters are made on the need for blood donation for the awareness of students..
