INSTITUTE OF COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Union Christian College Computer Centre was established in 1986 with the aim of developing interest in the field of computers and generating computer awareness among the students and staff of the college. As an extension of the College computer centre, Institute of Communication and Information Technology (ICIT) was started as an autonomous institution of the Union Christian College Management. From the humble beginnings as a computer centre with 2 teachers and 5 machines, it has grown into a full fledged institution and well equipped study centre housing 370 students, 8 full time and 3 part time teachers and 50 machines. ICIT is accredited by Dept. of Electronics, Govt of India for conducting courses and training students to appear for c level and c level examinations. It is also the Regional Study Centre of the School of Distance education, Mahatma Gandhi University from 1998.
This centre caters to the large community of students who are not able to get admissions to the regular stream of education. Students at the Centre are encouraged to enroll for various enrichment programs along with the study of the core subjects. The students enjoy the ambience of a regular college as well. Economically backward students are allowed a fee concession after verifying proper documents.
ICIT is managed by a 9 member Committee that includes the Manager, Principal, Bursar, Deans, Course co- ordinator and teachers from some of the departments of the College. Manager is in charge of the overall administration, Principal deals with academic matters and the Bursar handles financial matters of ICIT.
The three year BCA course was started in 1998.
