The Chemistry Department has been there from the very inception of the Science stream of the Intermediate Course in the College and Prof. T. R. Anantharaman was the founder Professor and Head of the Department. He served the College from 1926 to 1962. The B.Sc course in Chemistry was started in 1953 and the department moved to the present building in 1969 under the able leadership of Dr. A. M. Chacko. The PG course was started in 1982, though the department was well equipped for the PG course from 1969 onwards. The B.Sc Model II course in Polymer Chemistry was started in 1998 and since the course was not regularized in the aided stream, it was temporarily stopped in 2003. At present there are nine faculty members of which eight have improved their academic qualification with PhD degree.
