Centre for the Study of Religion and Society(CSRS) of  Union Christian College conducted a seminar on Tagore- A tribute to the Nobel laureate on the 150th anniversary of his birth on 28th January , 2012 at Mithrapuram Hall in the campus.

In 1922 Tagore visted Union Christian Collegeand in the inaugural speech he said ” From what I have heard about the ideals of this institution and of the method which you have adopted for carrying out educaton in this college, I find that it has great resemblance to the institution I have started. You have the same ideals which we have in Santhiniketan”

Prof. Dr.Jancy James , Vice Chancellor, Central University of Kerala, Kasargode(Former Vice Chancellor of M G University and the first woman Vice Chancellor in India) , Prof.Dr. Biswajith Ray , Department of Bengali, Santhiniketan, Viswabharathi University, Kolkata, Dr. T.H.Jitha, Asst Professor, department of Malayalam , SNM College , Maliankara(Recipient of Sahithya Manjari puraskaram) were the main personalities who addressed the gathering. College Principal Dr. T.Thomas Philip, Manager Dr.A.M.Chacko, Bursar Dr.Benny Cherian A, , College chaplain Fr. Johney George ,faculties and research scholars of the institution attended the seminar ank took valuable inputs. The presentation “Tagore’s contribution in the field of education and social change ” was presented by Dr. Jancy James, “The ethos of Santhiniketan/Viswabharathi and its influence on the life and vision of the people especially in Bengal” was presented by Dr. Biswajith ray and “Tagore’s spirituality based on Gitanjali” was presented by Dr. T.H.Jitha. In the afternoon the panel discussion was moderated by Dr. A.M.Chacko
