Dr A.K Baby memorial lecture will be delivered on March 3rd 10.30 AM  at T.B Ninan Hall by former head of the department of History, Prof P.M Varkey.

Prof Baby: Brief biography

  • 1965: A separate department was constituted with Dr A.K Baby as the first head of the department
  • 1967: Post graduate programme in History began under the initiative of Dr Baby
  • 1970s, 80s: The department undertook pioneering research in medieval and modern history led by Dr T.I Poonnen, and Dr A.K Baby returns . At the same time, the department laid the foundation for interdisciplinary studies which still forms the essence of the department. Young scholars were promoted as teachers who went on to do research in different periods in Indian history. There were luminaries among the students too like P.K Michael Tharakan and others. The eminent historian Prof. Rajan Gurukkal joined the department during this period.
  • 1975: Dr Baby  was instrumental in beginning of the Archaeological Museum
