Fifth Historia Award 2015-16, for Dr Sebastian Joseph

Dr. Sebastian Joseph’s, Cochin Forests and the British: Techno ecological Imperialism in India (Primus, New Delhi,2016) won the Fifth Historia Award for the best researched work on the history of Kerala for 2015-16 . It was presented to him by Dr. D. Babu Paul, I.A.S at a ceremony held at the University College, Trivandrum on 23 July, 2016. The

book traces the environmental history of Cochin and the first of its kind in Kerala history. Examining the varied intersections between modern economic and scientific rationality, the technological expansion of an imperialist state and the predicaments of local ecological worlds, this book is crucial for understanding the environmental history of a princely state, less written about. Earlier the book was launched in Kerala by Prof. K. N. Panikkar at a function held at Press Club, Trivandrum
