INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT CENTRE (IEDC)


The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) is an initiative of Kerala Startup Mission under Startup Bootcamp Scheme of Government of Kerala. Under this scheme financial assistance is given to selected colleges for supporting innovative products and thereby build an entrepreneurial eco-system inside the campus.
The mission of the IEDCs is to “develop institutional mechanism to create entrepreneurial culture in academic institutions to foster growth of innovation and entrepreneurship amongst the faculty and students”.

Objectives of the IEDCs:

  • To act as an institutional mechanism for providing various services including information on all aspects of enterprise building to budding S&T entrepreneurs
  • To create Entrepreneurial culture in the Parent Institution and other institutions in the region
  • To inculcate a culture of innovation driven entrepreneurship through student projects.
  • To catalyse and promote development of S&T knowledge-based enterprises and promote employment opportunities in the innovative areas.

Functions of IEDCs:

  • To organise Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps, Entrepreneurship Development Programmes, Faculty Development Programmes and Skill Development Programmes in the college/institution for the benefit of S&T persons.
  • To initiate five innovative student projects each year for new innovative product development.
  • To guide and assist prospective entrepreneurs on various aspects such as preparing
    project reports, obtaining project approvals, loans and facilities from agencies of support system, information on technologies, etc.
  • To arrange interaction with entrepreneurs and create a mentorship scheme for student entrepreneurs.
  • To facilitate creation of entrepreneur’s club in each college to foster culture of entrepreneurship amongst students
  • To arrange industrial visit to understand the present problems faced by the industry and propose innovative solutions.
  • To act as a Regional Information Centre on business opportunities, processes, technologies, market, etc. by creating and maintaining relevant data bases.
  • IEDCs would also sensitise the management of the institutions regarding the importance of entrepreneurship and integrate their activities with the Host Institutions.

October 2024

12. 25, 26 October 2024: Two Day Workshop for Research Scholars and PG Students.

A series of interactive sessions organized by the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) at UC College provided postgraduate and research students with valuable insights into innovation, intellectual property rights, and research methodologies across various disciplines. Led by experts in their fields, the sessions covered essential topics like intellectual property, ethical research practices, and the entrepreneurial journey, inspiring students to see their academic projects as potential prototypes or market-ready products. The sessions fostered active student engagement, sparking interest in patenting, company registration, and accessing project funding. Students requested ongoing support, mentorship, and resources to encourage entrepreneurial ventures and product development based on their academic research. These sessions have set a foundation for cultivating innovation at UC College, emphasizing the potential for academic findings to drive impactful change. Read more.

11. 19 October, 2024: Fundamentals of Accounting and Compliances using Tally.

On October 19th, 2024, the IEDC at UC College organized a workshop titled “Fundamentals of Accounting and Compliances using Tally”, led by Mr. Santhosh H. The session aimed to introduce participants to essential accounting practices, the significance of compliance for startups, and the practical use of Tally software for managing finances efficiently. Dr. Jibin Jose Mathew, IEDC nodal officer, highlighted opportunities for entrepreneurship support provided by Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) and stressed the importance of office automation. The Principal emphasized the benefits of digital tools like Tally for campus operations. Participants learned the fundamentals of accounting, compliance, and practical applications of Tally, gaining valuable skills to support their entrepreneurial and professional growth.  Read More.

 

10. October 09, 2024: Crafting Success: “The Entrepreneurship Guide to Paper Pen Making”.

The IEDC of UC College organized a hands-on workshop titled “Crafting Success: The Entrepreneurship Guide to Paper Pen Making” on October 9, 2024, led by resource person Paul M. Saju. The session focused on teaching students how to create eco-friendly paper pens as a sustainable entrepreneurial venture. Paul first trained a small group of students, who then taught others in a peer-to-peer manner. The workshop was interactive, enjoyable, and educational, with students actively participating in the process. Many students suggested regular half-day sustainability activities and proposed selling the paper pens in the college’s eco-shop, Thanalidam, to promote environmental awareness and entrepreneurship. September 2024

9. September 07, 2024: Interactive Session on “How to Make Organic Manure from Dry Leaves”.


In association with NSS unit no. 52, this session focused on sustainable practices like composting dry leaves to create organic manure. Dr. Jibin Jose Mathew, Nodal Officer of IEDC, facilitated the session. Students showed enthusiasm for further sessions on eco-friendly projects like paper bag making and marketing organic products. 8. September 09, 2024: Third Executive Committee Meeting

The third IEDC Executive Committee meeting was held to plan upcoming events for the next months, including workshops on Debian OS, paper pen and paper bag making, soft skills and personality development training, LED bulb making, and follow-up sessions on Flutter app development. The meeting also discussed creating a roadmap for student entrepreneurship and strengthening engagement through collaboration with the Women’s Cell and Thanaleedam Eco Shop.

7. 25th to 29th September 2024: Participation in FDP on Entrepreneurship Development

From 25th to 29th September 2024, three faculty members from UC College—Dr. Jibin Jose Mathew, Dr. Jyothilekshmi S., and Mr. Cijin K. Paul—attended a 5-Day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Entrepreneurship Development and FYUGP Integration. The program, organized by the Business Innovation & Incubation Centre at M.G. University, Kottayam, aimed to equip faculty with skills to foster an entrepreneurial mindset and align with the new FYUGP framework. The college sponsored the ₹5000 registration fee for their participation, which included key insights into entrepreneurship fundamentals, business models, and innovation pedagogy. This experience is expected to enhance their ability to integrate entrepreneurship into the curriculum and mentor students effectively.

August 2024

6. August 07, 2024: Interactive Session on “Unlocking Digital Marketing”

A one-day session organized in collaboration with the MCA department, featuring Mr. Mansoor Majeed as the resource person. The session introduced over 100 students to the fundamentals of digital marketing and strategies, receiving positive feedback from the attendees. Students requested more workshops on advanced digital marketing techniques in the future. Read more.

5. August 21, 2024: Interactive Session on “Entrepreneurship and Technological Advancement Prospects in Sports Management”

Led by Mr. Mansoor Majeed, this session explored entrepreneurship opportunities in sports and health management, driven by technological advancements. Students were divided into seven groups for activities focused on applying tech-driven solutions to sports management, promoting collaboration and creativity.

4. August 29, 2024: Interactive Session on “Flutter – Build Apps for Any Screen”

A training session on Flutter app development, hosted by Akhil P.S., a recognized app developer. The session focused on building, testing, and deploying apps across platforms from a single codebase. Students requested a follow-up session for advanced features in Flutter development. Read More.

3. August 29, 2024: Second Executive Committee Meeting


Held at the CME staff room, this meeting reviewed recent interactive sessions including “Digital Marketing Strategies for the Modern Age” and “Unlocking Digital Marketing.” Upcoming events like “Entrepreneurship and Technological Advancement Prospects in Sports Management” and the continuation of Flutter Mobile App Development training were also discussed and scheduled.

2. August 30, 31, 2024: Euphoria’24 tech fest at Rajagiri.

On 30th and 31st August 2024, six IEDC student members representing our UC College— (Ramees Mohammed M.M., Sreeram J. Menon, Anirudh A. Menon, Famidha M.A., Manual Antony, and Sidharth P.B.) —participated in Euphoria’24 Tech Fest at Rajagiri College. They competed in events such as the Coding Challenge, Treasure Hunt, and Web Design Contest. Their participation provided valuable experience, enhancing their technical skills and engagement with the broader tech community.

July 2024

1. July 17, 2024: First Executive Committee Meeting


Held at the IEDC room, the first meeting focused on outlining the activities for the academic year. New members were introduced, and the committee discussed the objectives and vision of IEDC and KSUM, strengths and weaknesses of the college, and the importance of social media presence to raise awareness among students.
