‘Demonetization, Causes, Concerns and Consequences’

The Research and Post Graduate Department of Economics organised a lecture on ‘Demonetization, Causes, Concerns and Consequences’ on January 18,2017. Dr. Martin Patrick, Chief Economist, Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR) Kochi, was the the main speaker.

Dr Martin Patrick said that ‘Demonetization was like a carpet bombing as it inherits its own seeds of destruction. As always, the poor are the main victims of this policy change. During his speech Prof Martin raised the question,  ‘whether demonetization was necessary in our growing economy?

He suggested few solutions for the current scenario through strengthening the institutional and legal measures for tackling the problem of black money.

Prof Rev Thomas John, presided the function and aired his strong and vivid views about demonetization during his presidential address. Dr. Sunil Abraham Thomas. Head, Department of Economics, welcomed the dignitaries and Ms. Rajalakshmi R, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics proposed the vote of thanks.
