New Manager for the College

Rev. Thomas John took charge as the Manager of the College with effect from 1 June 2016 for a period of four years. Rev. John is an old student and a former faculty member of Union Christian College. He studied in U.C. College for his Pre-University and BA from 1963 to 67. After his postgraduate studies he joined the faculty of U.C. College in 1970 and continued till his retirement as the Head of the Department of Psychology in 2003. During his tenure with the College, he had made several excursions that expanded the horizon of his knowledge and experience. He studied theology at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, USA from 1976-79.

He served the Student Christian Movement of India as its national General Secretary from 1990-94. Subsequently, he served at the head office of the Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Kentucky (USA) as Mission Partner in Residence during the year 1994-95. He also served the college in many capacities, especially as the Dean of Academic affairs since 2000 till his retirement.

He was responsible for many of the international relationships of the college since his return from the US in 1995. To facilitate international linkages and also to act as nodal center for Alumni relations, auxiliary educational programs, continuing education and community outreach, Rev. John took a pioneering role in the development of the Centre for Human Potentials and Community Development (CHPCD). He also served to link the Young Adult Volunteer Program of the Presbyterian Church to the CHPCD and the College as Community Development Internship Program. He continues to act as Companionship Facilitator for the Presbyterian Hunger Program (USA) initiatives in S. India.

With his extensive and diverse experiences and talents, we believe that he would be able to provide able and visionary leadership for UC College as it prepares to celebrate its Centenary in 2021. He is one of the rare persons to have really touched the “soul” of UCC. It is also pertinent to note that Rev. John is a nephew of late Prof. T. B. Ninan and late Prof. T. B. Thomas, former principals and stalwarts in the early history of the college.
