Union Christian College, Aluva, has initiated steps to preserve its oldest visitor’s diary, which bears the signatures of eminent personalities including Mahatma Gandhi. The move is part of the college’s plan to observe 2025 as ‘Gandhi Year’, marking the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi’s visit to the campus in 1925.
The preservation work is being led by Dr. Jayaraj V., a renowned conservation expert and author from Chennai. According to Principal Dr. Mini Alice and the college’s Department of History, the century-old visitor’s diary—containing the handwritten signatures of historical figures such as Mahatma Gandhi, Lord Irwin, Ram Manohar Lohia, P.K. Vasudevan UC College Begins Preservation of Historic Visitor’s DiaryNair and T.N. Seshan, as well as contemporary personalities like Jerry Amaldev and Mohanlal—is being conserved through a deacidification process to ensure its long-term protection.
