The Water Hyacinth Management Initiative of the Ernakulam District Administration was inaugurated yesterday at Tripunithura by District Collector Ms. Priyanka, in the presence of Sub Collector Mr. Sai Krishna

A solar powered Water Hyacinth Harvester for removal of aquatic weeds. Collection Machine and a Shredder/Squeezer were procured for the project.

The segregated stem portions will be handed over to the U.C.College team
under the supervision of Dr.Jyothilekshmi.S. for preparation of Organic fertilizer sticks and the main biomass will be utilised for briquette product .Two Kudumbashree women have also been assigned to support the U.C. College Team in the collection, processing and preparation of Organic Fertilizer Sticks. The remaining processed biomass will be utilized for briquette production by another group.

This initiative is an important step towards sustainable water hyacinth management, biomass utilization and livelihood generation, led by the Ernakulam District Administration.
