Corporate capitalism confiscates creativity through IPR

Aluva, 19 December 2013: Corporate capitalism with the system of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) is confiscating creativity, according to Prof.Rajan Gurukkal, Soundararajan Chair Professor, Centre for Contemporary Studies, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore & Former Vice Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. This will have profound impact on the economy, science and culture of the society. Prof Gurukkal was speaking on the topic ‘Knowledge Economy and India’ at Union Christian College, Aluva.
The meeting was organised by the Department of Economics in connection with the Dr M.V. Kurien Memorial Lecture 2013. Under corporate/techno capitalism, technology and science constitute the hegemonic form of knowledge. New knowledge or creativity are the most valuable resources under techno capitalism. Corporations erect a system of IPR to confiscate creativity. Prof Benny Cherian, Prof Elsamma Poulose, Rev. Thomas John and Dr Rajan Varughese spoke on the occassion.
